Having grown up in southern Minnesota spending summers surrounded by a rainbow of color, I have long appreciated flowers. My family were avid gardeners and spent hours tending one or another of the vegetable and flower gardens. I fondly remember a magnificent freedom tramping through the blues, yellows, oranges, and purples of the flower garden. With the sky above and the earth below, I was at home with myself.
Enrollment in the odd pottery class, working with stained glass, moving on to whatever hobby was 'in' that season and refinishing furniture provided an outlet for my creative side. I have always respected artisans of another age; potters, quilters, seamstresses, cooks and housekeepers who infused their useful tools for the home with a touch of magic. I dreamed of living a life where work was what I did when I got up in the morning. As I redefined art for myself, it all came together in my unique pieces - designing a pressed flower arrangement on recycled items.
